Bruce McCall, the artist who created the cover for the May 15, 2023 issue, passed away at the age of 87. He had contributed more than 80 covers and Shouts & Murmurs columns to The New Yorker, and was known for his surrealist World’s Fair futurism, affection for a past that never was, and droll humor.
