Source: Pegasus spyware found on phones of Mexican president’s close ally
Summary
Mexico’s undersecretary for human rights, Alejandro Encinas, and at least two members of his office have had their phones found infected with Pegasus spyware, according to sources. The Citizen Lab research team detected Pegasus in 2022, while Encinas’ phone has faced multiple attacks, including in 2021 while he was leading a commission on investigating military abuses instigated by drug traffickers, police, and select officials. Encinas briefed President Andrés Manuel López Obrador about the spying this year.
